Trade-in and buyback for Shopify stores
Customers value an old phone or laptop right in your Shopify store and see an estimate straight away. The request lands in your FastTradein workspace, where you inspect the device at intake, send a new price if needed, and record the payout. There is no app to install from the Shopify App Store: the widget is two lines of code in a Custom Liquid section of the theme editor.

What the customer sees
-
The customer values the device on the site
They pick a model and answer questions about its condition.
-
The calculator shows a preliminary estimate
The estimate uses your store prices and rules, together with the customer’s answers.
-
You inspect the device at intake
If the condition differs from what was stated, the customer gets a link to a new offer and can accept or decline it.
What your store gets
-
Your buyback prices
The widget prices each device from your price list and the customer’s answers about its condition. The catalog holds 990+ device configurations, and you can upload your own price table or import it from a link every night.
-
A new offer after inspection
If the device turns out worse than described, the customer gets a link to a new offer and accepts or declines it.
-
A handover record for every deal
The parties and the amount, the stated and the actual condition after inspection, and the IMEI or serial number if you entered it.
-
Payout or a store voucher
Pay by bank transfer or as credit toward a purchase. If you turn on store vouchers, the customer can choose a voucher with a bonus from 0 to 50%.
-
Trade-in at your counter too
The same prices apply in your store: an on-the-spot quote, a handover record, and a voucher with a printed receipt.
-
Requests in your CRM
On the Business and Pro plans requests go to your CRM through webhooks and can be exported to CSV.

App or service
An app from the Shopify App Store
- Installed from the Shopify App Store, with access to store data under the app’s permissions.
- Can run trade-ins inside Shopify itself, if the app supports it.
- Price, limits, and terms depend on the app.
FastTradein
- Two lines of code on the page, nothing to install.
- We update the widget, and you never reinstall the code.
- Requests, handover records, and vouchers live in your workspace, on servers in Germany (EU).
- The same prices on your website and at the counter in your store.
An app suits a store that wants to run trade-ins inside Shopify itself. FastTradein suits a store that wants quotes from its own price list, inspection at intake, and a handover record for every deal, and also takes devices in at the counter.

Copy the code and add your website
In the workspace, copy the code from the “Widget embed” page: two lines of HTML with your widget key.
Then open “Store settings” and enter the address customers use to open your store in the “Website” field: your own domain, or an address like your-store.myshopify.com if you have no domain. The widget only loads on allowed websites. If you need it on another address too, add it to “Websites where the widget works”. The number of websites depends on the plan: Starter 1, Business up to 5, Pro unlimited.
This is what the code from the workspace looks like. Your widget key replaces YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY.
<script src="https://fasttradein.app/widget/fasttradein.js" async data-no-optimize="1" data-no-defer="1"></script> <fasttradein-widget key="YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY" api="https://fasttradein.app" lang="en"></fasttradein-widget> -
Create a page template with the widget code
In the Shopify admin, open Online Store and click Edit theme on your current theme. In the template list at the top of the editor, choose Pages → Create template, name the template, for example trade-in, and keep Default page as its base.
In the Template area on the left, click Add section and choose Custom Liquid. Paste the whole code into the Liquid code field and click Save. The section keeps the
<script>line, and the widget shows in the editor preview right away.If your theme has no Custom Liquid section, choose an option under “Other ways to add the code”.

Create a trade-in page
Open Online Store → Pages and click Add page. Fill in the title and the page text, choose the trade-in template in the Template field, select Visible under Visibility, and save.
The Template list shows the templates of the published theme. If you created the template in an unpublished copy of your theme, publish that copy first.
Online Store → Pages, the Trade-in page with the trade-in template -
Check that the widget works
Open the published page and get a test estimate: choose a device and answer the questions about its condition.
On the “Widget embed” page of the workspace you will see a status showing that the widget works, with the site address and the time it last loaded. If the status is missing, see “Why does the widget not show on my site?”.
Trade-in page on a Shopify development store, Horizon theme. Where it says “Your store logo”, the widget shows your store’s logo or name.
Other ways to add the code
The steps above are for themes with a Custom Liquid section, such as Horizon and Dawn. If your store is set up differently, choose the option that fits.
Code in the page text
You can paste the code straight into the page text, which works with any theme. Open Online Store → Pages, click Show HTML (the <> button) on the text editor toolbar, paste the code, and save the page.
If anyone later edits the page text in the normal view, the Shopify editor removes the widget code, and the widget disappears from the page on save. Changing only the page title leaves the code in place. For a page whose text people will edit, a Custom Liquid section is the safer choice.
Multilingual stores
If your store runs in several languages, replace the value of the lang attribute in the Custom Liquid section with {{ request.locale.iso_code }}. The widget then speaks the language the customer chose. It supports Ukrainian, Russian, English, Polish, German, and Spanish, and shows in English for any other language.
Liquid does not run in the page text. If the code sits there, remove the lang attribute altogether: the widget then takes the page language from your theme.
Caching and speed apps
You do not need to clear any Shopify cache: after you save in the theme editor or on the page, the storefront shows the change at once.
If your store runs a speed app that delays or combines scripts, add the widget script https://fasttradein.app/widget/fasttradein.js to its exclusions. Otherwise the widget may only appear after a scroll or a click.
Compatibility
What we checked on a Shopify development store and how it went.
| What we checked | Result |
|---|---|
| Horizon | Free Shopify theme: a trade-in page template with a Custom Liquid section |
| Custom Liquid | Custom Liquid keeps the whole widget code, and the widget also shows in the editor preview |
| Page templates | The page picks the template in its Template field once the theme is published |
| request.locale | A {{ request.locale.iso_code }} value in the lang attribute gives the widget the storefront language |
| Product page | A Custom Liquid block in the product details shows the widget next to the description |
| Show HTML | Code in the page text works, but editing the text in the normal view removes it |
What to know about Shopify
- This is not an app from the Shopify App Store: there is nothing to install, and we update the widget on our side.
- No Shopify orders are created: trade-in requests live in your FastTradein workspace.
- A FastTradein voucher code does not work at Shopify checkout by itself. To accept it, the store creates a Shopify discount with that code in advance and, once the discount is tested, marks acceptance in the FastTradein settings. FastTradein does not create discounts or gift cards in Shopify.
- The widget shows amounts in the currency of your workspace, one per store, even if your Shopify store sells in several currencies.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a trade-in app for Shopify?
FastTradein needs no app: the widget goes into a Custom Liquid section of the theme editor. The Shopify App Store also has separate trade-in apps. See “App or service” for how the two options differ.
Will it work with my theme?
Yes, if your theme lets you add a Custom Liquid section. Horizon and Dawn, the standard Shopify themes, have it. In older themes without sections on pages, paste the code into the page text, see “Other ways to add the code”.
Do I need a developer?
No. You create the page template and the Custom Liquid section in the theme editor, with no theme files to edit.
Can I put the widget on a product page?
Yes. In the theme editor, choose Products → Default product in the template list, click Add block under Details in the Product information section, choose Custom Liquid, paste the code, and save. The widget then shows next to the product description on every product that uses this template. We checked this in the Horizon theme.
Which devices can customers trade in?
Smartphones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and consoles. In Store settings you turn each type on or off, and you set the buyback prices.
Can I take devices in at my store too?
Yes, on every plan. The same prices apply at the counter: an on-the-spot quote, a handover record, and a payout or a voucher with a printed receipt.
Why does the widget not show on my site?
Check that your store address is on the “Store settings” page in FastTradein, that the page uses the template with the Custom Liquid section, and that the whole code is pasted. If the widget says it is not enabled on the site, add the address it names to “Websites where the widget works”. If your store runs a speed app, add the widget script to its exclusions.
Why does the widget say it is not enabled on a myshopify.com address in the theme editor?
The editor opened your store at its service address, your-store.myshopify.com, while the workspace lists your own domain. Check the widget on the published page under your domain, or add the service address to “Websites where the widget works”.
Will the widget fit my store design?
Yes. The widget is a web component with its own styles, so theme CSS does not break its layout. We checked the Horizon theme. You set the widget colors and font in the workspace.
Will requests show up as Shopify orders?
No. Trade-in requests live in your FastTradein workspace. On the Business and Pro plans you can send them to your CRM through webhooks.
Does a FastTradein voucher work at Shopify checkout?
Only after you set it up. You can create a Shopify discount with the voucher code, but a one-off discount does not keep a balance. Mark online acceptance in the FastTradein settings once your chosen method is tested.
How much does trade-in for a Shopify store cost?
FastTradein takes no commission on deals. Monthly plans: Starter $29 with up to 50 widget requests, Business $99 with up to 300, Pro $199 with no request limit. The first 14 days are free, no card needed.
How can I see the widget before setting it up?
Open the demo and get a test estimate. On your site the widget works with your store’s prices and settings.
