Trade-in and buyback for PrestaShop stores

Customers value an old phone or laptop right in your PrestaShop store and see an estimate straight away. The request lands in your FastTradein workspace, where you inspect the device at intake, send a new price if needed, and record the payout. The free FastTradein module puts the widget on your site: you upload it in the store admin and write [fasttradein] on the page where the widget belongs.

What the customer sees

  1. Widget on a store website: question about the screen condition

The customer values the device on the site

They pick a model and answer questions about its condition.

  2. Widget showing the preliminary estimate for iPhone 15 128GB

The calculator shows a preliminary estimate

The estimate uses your store prices and rules, together with the customer’s answers.

  3. New offer page the customer receives after inspection

You inspect the device at intake

If the condition differs from what was stated, the customer gets a link to a new offer and can accept or decline it.

What your store gets

  • Your buyback prices

The widget prices each device from your price list and the customer’s answers about its condition. The catalog holds 990+ device configurations, and you can upload your own price table or import it from a link every night.

  • A new offer after inspection

If the device turns out worse than described, the customer gets a link to a new offer and accepts or declines it.

  • A handover record for every deal

The parties and the amount, the stated and the actual condition after inspection, and the IMEI or serial number if you entered it.

  • Payout or a store voucher

Pay by bank transfer or as credit toward a purchase. If you turn on store vouchers, the customer can choose a voucher with a bonus from 0 to 50%.

  • Trade-in at your counter too

The same prices apply in your store: an on-the-spot quote, a handover record, and a voucher with a printed receipt.

  • Requests in your CRM

On the Business and Pro plans requests go to your CRM through webhooks and can be exported to CSV.

Addons module or service

A trade-in module from PrestaShop Addons

  • Installed from the PrestaShop Addons catalog and runs inside your store, with requests in its database.
  • Can run trade-ins inside PrestaShop itself, if the module supports it.
  • Price, updates, and terms depend on the module.

FastTradein

  • The free module only shows the widget, so new features never need a module update.
  • We update the widget, and you never reinstall anything.
  • Requests, handover records, and vouchers live in your workspace, on servers in Germany (EU).
  • The same prices on your website and at the counter in your store.

An Addons module suits a store that wants to run trade-ins inside PrestaShop itself. FastTradein suits a store that wants quotes from its own price list, inspection at intake, and a handover record for every deal, and also takes devices in at the counter.

How to add trade-in to PrestaShop

  1. Create your store workspace

Sign up for FastTradein and choose a plan. 14 days free, no card needed.

    Try 14 days free
  2. Copy the code and add your website

In the workspace, copy the code from the “Widget embed” page: two lines of HTML with your widget key. PrestaShop does not need the whole code, only the key, but you do not have to cut the key out yourself: the module finds it in the code.

Then open “Store settings” and enter your store address in the “Website” field. The widget only loads on allowed websites. If you need it on another address too, add it to “Websites where the widget works”. The number of websites depends on the plan: Starter 1, Business up to 5, Pro unlimited.

This is what the code from the workspace looks like. Your widget key replaces YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY.

    <script src="https://fasttradein.app/widget/fasttradein.js" async data-no-optimize="1" data-no-defer="1"></script>
    <fasttradein-widget key="YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY" api="https://fasttradein.app" lang="en"></fasttradein-widget>
  3. Download and install the FastTradein module

Download the module archive with the button below; there is no need to unzip it. In the PrestaShop admin, open Modules → Module Manager, click Upload a module, and drop the archive into the window. When “Module installed!” appears, click Configure.

The module is free and made for PrestaShop 8 and 9.

Download the module ZIP, 10 KB, version 1.0.0, free
The Upload a module window in the Module Manager of the PrestaShop 9 admin, for the FastTradein module archive
Modules → Module Manager → Upload a module
  4. Paste the code into the module settings

In the Public store key field, paste the code from the workspace or just the key that starts with tfk_. Leave Widget language set to The language of the page, so the widget speaks the language of each page. Leave Widget script set to Only on pages with the widget, and click Save.

  5. Create a trade-in page

Open Design → Pages and click Add new page. Fill in the title, and in Page content write [fasttradein] on a line of its own. Turn on Displayed and click Save. On the published page the widget appears in place of that line.

If your store runs in several languages, write [fasttradein] on the tab of each language: the widget takes the language of the page.

Do not paste the widget code itself into the page text: PrestaShop will not save the <script> line, and it removes the widget tag on save. That is why the module is needed.

The Trade-in page in Design → Pages of the PrestaShop admin, with [fasttradein] on its own line in Page content
Design → Pages, the Trade-in page with the [fasttradein] line
  6. Check that the widget works

Open the published page and get a test estimate: choose a device and answer the questions about its condition.

On the “Widget embed” page of the workspace you will see a status showing that the widget works, with the site address and the time it last loaded. If the status is missing, see “Why does the widget not show on my site?”.

Other ways

A separate trade-in page suits most stores. The module can also show the widget in other places on your site.

The widget on the home page or in another theme position

Open Design → Positions and click Hook a module. In the Module field choose FastTradein trade-in widget, in the Hook field choose a position, for example displayHome for the home page, and click Save. The widget appears there in every language of your store.

The widget in a theme template

A developer can put the widget into any theme template with the line {widget name='fasttradein'}. The module takes the key and the language from its settings.

Without the module, the widget code only works in the theme files, for example in a separate page template templates/cms/page-ID.tpl, where ID is the page number in Design → Pages. That needs access to the site files, and changes in the files of a standard theme are lost when PrestaShop updates.

Multilingual stores

The module takes the language of the page, so the widget speaks Polish on the Polish version of your store and Spanish on the Spanish one. It supports Ukrainian, Russian, English, Polish, German, and Spanish, and shows in English for any other language.

To show the widget in another language on one page, add the language code to the shortcode, for example [fasttradein lang="de"].

Caching and speed modules

You usually do not need to clear the PrestaShop cache: the module puts the widget in when the page is shown, and PrestaShop refreshes its cache when you save a page. If the widget does not appear after your changes, open Advanced Parameters → Performance and click Clear cache.

The built-in CSS and JavaScript combining does not affect the widget. If your store runs a third-party speed module that delays or combines scripts, add the widget script https://fasttradein.app/widget/fasttradein.js to its exclusions.

Compatibility

What we checked on a PrestaShop test store with the FastTradein module and how it went.

What we checked Result
PrestaShop 9 The module installs from the archive through Upload a module, and its settings save
Hummingbird The default theme of PrestaShop 9: the widget on the trade-in page and on the home page
CMS pages [fasttradein] in the page text shows the widget. PrestaShop does not save a <script> line and removes the widget tag, which is why the module is needed
Languages The widget speaks the page language on six language versions of the store: English, Polish, Spanish, German, Russian, and Ukrainian
Positions Hook a module puts the widget at the bottom of the home page
Smart cache CSS and JavaScript combining, switched on, does not affect the widget

What to know about PrestaShop

  • The FastTradein module only shows the widget: prices, requests, handover records, and payouts live in the workspace, and the widget script loads from fasttradein.app. New features therefore arrive without a new module version.
  • No PrestaShop orders are created: trade-in requests live in your FastTradein workspace.
  • A FastTradein voucher code does not work at PrestaShop checkout by itself. To accept it, the store creates a cart rule with that code in Catalog → Discounts in advance and, once the rule is tested, marks acceptance in the FastTradein settings. FastTradein does not create discounts in PrestaShop.
  • The widget shows amounts in the currency of your workspace, one per store, even if your PrestaShop store sells in several currencies.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a trade-in module for PrestaShop?

Yes. The FastTradein module is free; you can download it in step 3 of this guide. It puts the valuation widget on your site, while requests, prices, and payouts run in your FastTradein workspace. See “Addons module or service” for how it differs from the trade-in modules in the Addons catalog.

Why can I not just paste the code into a page, as with other platforms?

PrestaShop does not save a <script> line in page text, and its built-in HTML cleaning removes the widget tag. Turning the cleaning off is a bad idea, because it protects all the text in your store. The module solves this without turning protection off: you write [fasttradein], and the widget appears when the page is shown.

Do I need a developer?

No. You upload the module in the admin, paste the key into its settings, and write [fasttradein] in the page text. There are no theme files to edit.

Which PrestaShop versions does the module work with?

The module is made for PrestaShop 8 and 9. We checked it on PrestaShop 9.2.0 with the Hummingbird theme. It is not meant for PrestaShop 1.7: there the widget goes into the theme files, see “Other ways”.

Will the widget fit my store design?

Yes. The widget is a web component with its own styles, so theme CSS does not break its layout. We checked the Hummingbird theme. You set the widget colors and font in the workspace.

Can I put the widget on the home page or above the footer?

Yes. In Design → Positions, click Hook a module, choose the FastTradein module and a position: displayHome for the home page or displayFooterBefore above the footer.

How do I show the widget in several languages?

There is nothing to set up: the module takes the language of the page. The widget supports Ukrainian, Russian, English, Polish, German, and Spanish, and shows in English for any other language. See “Other ways” for details.

Which devices can customers trade in?

Smartphones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and consoles. In Store settings you turn each type on or off, and you set the buyback prices.

Can I take devices in at my store too?

Yes, on every plan. The same prices apply at the counter: an on-the-spot quote, a handover record, and a payout or a voucher with a printed receipt.

Why does the widget not show on my site?

Check that the key is saved in the module settings, that [fasttradein] is in the text of the published page, and that your store address is entered in FastTradein on the “Store settings” page. If the widget says it is not enabled on the site, add the address it names to “Websites where the widget works”. If your store runs a speed module, add the widget script to its exclusions and clear the cache in Advanced Parameters → Performance.

Will requests show up in PrestaShop orders?

No. Trade-in requests live in your FastTradein workspace. On the Business and Pro plans you can send them to your CRM through webhooks.

Does a FastTradein voucher work at PrestaShop checkout?

Only if the store sets it up by creating a cart rule with the voucher code in Catalog → Discounts. Mark online acceptance in the FastTradein settings once the method you chose is tested.

How much does trade-in cost for a PrestaShop store?

The module is free, and FastTradein takes no commission on deals. Monthly plans: Starter $29 with up to 50 widget requests, Business $99 with up to 300, Pro $199 with no request limit. The first 14 days are free, no card needed.

How can I see the widget before setting it up?

Open the demo and get a test estimate. On your site the widget works with your store’s prices and settings.
